Keep Comfortable During Your Tooth Removal

You know that you need oral surgery. Your tooth is far too painful to ignore, and from what your dentist told it, it can’t be saved either.

The thing is you’re scared. You have dental anxiety already, and the thought of having dental surgery is not comforting.

First, you should know that your feelings are normal. There is nothing wrong with you for being anxious about this kind of procedure. Second, this is why we offer sedation dentistry at our Woodbury, MN dental office.

Dr. Mark W. Wilhelm wants you to be as comfortable as possible, physically and emotionally, during any dental treatment you receive at our practice. Before you make an appointment, we welcome you to call 651-319-9064 to learn more about our sedation options.

Avoid Additional Problems

If you need a tooth removed, it’s because you are potentially looking as worse problems down the road.

A tooth infection can spread to other parts of your mouth. This can lead to more infections and more pain. Taking out one tooth could be the key to protecting the rest of your smile in the long run.

Impacted teeth also can be painful. They can put pressure on nerves, and they could push other teeth in ways that change your bite. This can increase your risk of cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss.

These are just a few things to keep in mind if a tooth extraction has been recommended for you.

Remain Pain-Free Throughout Your Procedure

In modern dental care, we have ways of keeping patients comfortable no matter how simple or complex your treatment may be. It’s just a matter of finding the right kind of dental sedation for you.

Inhaled sedation, also known as laughing gas, has been used by dentists for more than 150 years. We’ve known for a long time that this can ease anxiety and block pain. For patients with mild anxiety, it’s a great choice.

Oral sedation is a little stronger and longer-lasting that laughing gas. It will give you the same pain-blocking and calming benefits. It also can cause you to feel drowsy or to fall asleep, so you may not have any memory of your procedure. (According to many of our patients, that’s what they like the most about this option.)

IV sedation takes effect quickly, can be adjusted as needed, and provides all the benefits mentioned above. For longer procedures and patients with severe dental anxiety, this has made many procedures — including tooth extractions — much easier to handle.

General anesthesia is the strongest level of sedation that we offer. Few offices offer IV sedation, and fewer still can provide general anesthesia. To us, this is important for making sure our patients know that we have ways to keep them comfortable no matter why they are coming to see us.

Choose A Practice That Makes Your Comfort A Priority

Dr. Wilhelm and our team are committed to your comfort. It’s why we offer blankets and pillow to every patient who would like them. It’s why we’re happy to play music or put on one of your favorite television shows to provide a distraction for you.

And it’s why we offer a range sedation option if you need a tooth taken out.

Talk to us about how we can make your tooth removal as comfortable as it can be. Call 651-319-9064 or contact us online.
