Ask How Dental Sedation Could Help You

You know what needs to be done.

You need oral surgery to remove a bad tooth …

… or you need a bone graft to replace bone tissue so you can get dental implants.

… or you need ridge augmentation to correct a misshapen jaw.

There’s just one problem, you are filled with anxiety just thinking about the procedure. You understand why it needs to be done, but it makes you stressed.

Dr. Mark W. Wilhelm wants you to know that you are OK. It’s common for anyone to feel nervous about oral surgery. Even if you don’t have dental anxiety for preventive care, you may be a little nervous about any of the treatments mentioned above.

That’s why — before you make an appointment — we welcome and encourage you to come in for a consultation at our office in Woodbury, MN. This will give you a chance to learn about us and our approach to patient comfort.

Call 651-319-9064 to plan your visit.

Get to Know Our Doctor

Dr. Wilhelm is a dental specialist known as a prosthodontist.

Prosthodontics is one of nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. They define this as the field of dentistry “pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.”

To put that more simply, a prosthodontist is an expert on repair and replacing teeth, so they look and function as well as new.

Dr. Wilhelm has helped thousands of people restore and improve their smiles. He’s also respected for his knowledge and skill by his fellow dentists. He and our team have hosted multiple seminars on advanced restorative procedures and implant placement options for family and cosmetic dentists in and around Minnesota.

In other words, he can give you back your smile and your ability to bite and chew.

Keeping Your Comfortable

We consider our patients’ comfort to be one of our highest priorities. Your physical comfort is part of that, but we are focused on your mental comfort as well.

This is why we offer a variety of comfort and sedation options.

Our attentive, friendly, and compassionate dental professionals want you to feel at ease during your procedure. We are happy to put on some music or turn on the television if you would like a distraction from your dental care. If you want to feel more at home, you can borrow a blanket, a pillow, or both to stay cozy and warm.

If you are still feeling anxiety, this is when our sedation options can calm your nerves and keep you pain-free:

  • Laughing gas (inhaled sedation) is the simplest option. You just breathe in the gas, and you feel its calming effects in a matter of minutes.
  • Oral sedation is taken in pill form prior to your appointment (so someone else will need to drive you). It takes a little longer to take effect, but those effects last longer that laughing gas.
  • For some people, IV sedation is needed, and we are one of the few dental practices that offer this in our office.
  • For complex procedures, we also offer general anesthesia so you can rest assured that you will remain asleep and pain-free.
